Our junior choir includes children from the K - 2 section of the school, our senior choir includes children from Years 3 to 6 and our Opera House choir includes children from Years 5 and 6. They rehearse regularly and perform on a number of occasions, such as Education Week.
We have a very impressive dance program for students from Kindergarten through to Year 6. A specialist dance teacher is employed during second semester to teach children dances at an age appropriate level. There is an emphasis on making dance enjoyable. All classes work towards a performance which is held at the end of the year. This performance is well attended and enjoyed by our supportive parent community.
We are very fortunate to have very capable dance teachers at the school, which has enabled us to offer dance as an extra curricula activity. They usually rehearse before school or during lunch time and perform on various occasions for special events such as our Grandfriends' Assembly and in June and July at Glen St Theatre. We are very proud of our students' excellent performances and appreciative of the dedication and talent of the dance teachers.
In 2011 and 2012 Manly Village offered grade three and four the opportunity to join the Wakakirri group. Through dance, drama and song, the students told a story of the school spirit at Manly Village Public School. They worked hard each week during their lunch time to get ready for a big performance which has been held at The Entertainment Centre and Castle Hill Centre.
All students are welcome to join the chess club. You don't have to be an expert player to join, just interested in learning more about the game. We are very fortunate to have parents/ grandparents who help to train the children each Thursday. This ensures the children have individual assistance. The children participate in inter school tournaments.
Manly Village Public School currently has 3 bands; Concert Band, Senior Band and Training Band. Membership of the band program is open to all students in Years 3-6. The program aims to:
- encourage the participation of as many children as possible;
- enable children to enjoy music and play music for other people's enjoyment;
- teach children to play music in an ensemble and encourage team spirit;
- provide performance experience, building confidence and self esteem;
- introduce and develop an appreciation for a wide variety of music;
