Learning Assistance Support
The Support Teacher (Learning Assistance) is appointed to the
school on a part-time basis (currently 2 days per week).
This allocation is reviewed annually. The support teachers
role is to assist classroom teachers in providing for students
with learning difficulties.
A co-operative approach is achieved through the Learning
Support Team. The Learning Support Team consists of the school counsellor, Susan Young, the support teacher (learning assistance), Margaret Culligan, the English as a Second Language teacher, Ms Walliker, an Assistant Principal, Michelle Stewart and the Principal, Leonie Black. The team meets each week to discuss the students and to make decisions about the most appropriate programs for the students who have been referred to them.
The Support Teacher Learning Assistance will assist in the
identification and assessment of students with learning difficulties.
Support might take the form of small-group withdrawal from
class, special programs involving parent tutors, in-service
support and consultation with teachers and the provision of
special resources.
The Support Teacher Learning Assistance will assist the school
executive and class teachers to monitor and evaluate programs
for students with learning difficulties.
Parents are involved when special interventions are being
implemented for students and parent-training programs occur
when necessary to support the implementation of a home program.
