What is the P&C?
At Manly Village Public School we have a wonderfully dynamic Parents & Citizens (P&C) Association One of the main aims of the parents of the P&C, is to improve the school experience for every child (beyond that which the Department of Education and Training (DET) provides) in a non-political, non-discriminatory manner.

What can I expect at a meeting?
The P&C meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month in the Sir Roden Cutler Technology Room on the ground floor. We start at 7.30pm sharp and finish by 9.30pm.

We try to combine a guest speaker, (topics vary according to need) updates from parent lead teams, and consultation with parents on a variety of issues from website updates to budgeting to landscaping. We aim to do this in a timely, effective and efficient manner and welcome all parents to join us. This is a fantastic forum for staying up to date with what is happening in the school. A staff representative and the Principal also participate in these meetings.

One of the main roles of the P&C is to raise funds for important resources in addition to those funded by the Department of Education and Training (DET). In recent years funding has been allocated mainly to reading and maths resources, internet cabling, new sports courts and sports equipment. By attending P&C meetings you have the opportunity to vote on how funds are spent and discuss many aspects of the school.

What activities are the parents of the P&C involved in?
This school has a great tradition of parental involvement. The parents of the P&C are involved with a huge array of projects throughout the school, capturing a broad range of interests and talents. These include

    • Grounds - responsible for new projects and the ongoing development of the grounds, which have been improved substantially with the help of this committee since 1998.
    • Promotions - assists with the Information Days, Kindergarten Orientation and any publicity or advertising concerning the school.
    • Canteen - the school's Diamond Accredited canteen serves healthy food, five days per week.
    • Uniform - a second hand uniform shop run by parents operates in the school on Thursday afternoons.
    • Band - the Manly Music Makers have been established since 1998.
    • Social/Fundraising - a variety of events is organised each year which bring everyone together to raise money for special projects.
    • School Website - updates and new content by parents, teachers, students and office staff working together
    • School Magazine - P&C funded and co-ordinated by parents, students and teachers.
    • Manly Market - this is the school's major fundraising activity.

Each year an Annual General meeting is held at which the Executive members are voted in. This is advertised in the Seasider Newsletter. The MVPS P&C Executive comprises the President, two Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer and Library Trust Fund Administrator. One of the Executive members also participates in decision making on the School Council, as the P&C representative. The P&C is also represented on the Library Trust Fund committee, by the P&C President.

In addition, there are many other ways in which parents can be involved in the school, including:

    • being a class parent representative.

    • helping with reading or maths groups in classes (this is organised by teachers, not the P&C).

    • helping with annual class productions.

    • contributing to the decision-making via the School Council (elections are held every 1-2 years).

    • participating in occasional working bees to help keep our grounds beautiful.

The parents of the P&C at Manly Village Public School are about "Parents contributing for our children"

To keep parents updated the P&C also provides regular information in the Seasider newsletter.
